As many of you know, I have been writing professional resumes and providing resume writing services to clients for many years. Last year I decided to take the next step and pursue certification. I did some research and identified three highly reputable certifying organizations for professional resume writers. I chose one and then spent weeks preparing for the test, which lasted three days in December. I am proud to share with you that I am now officially a Certified Professional Resume Writer or CPRW.

My experience leads me to ask you, is there training or certification you can pursue that would benefit your career? I encourage you to make a list of skills, training, or certifications that would create more opportunities for you in your career. If you’re not sure what to put on your list, scan current job listings for positions similar to yours and see what employers are looking for today. Then do your research and find resources to obtain your training or certification. Make sure the school or certifying organizations has a good reputation in the marketplace; don’t just go for what appears to be easiest or cheapest. Then check out resources at your company or resources in your local state or community to see if there is funding available for some part of your education.

What training or certifications have you found most beneficial in your career so far? I’d love to hear from you below.

Client Stories

When I first met Lori, I was in a rut. Having spent 25 years in the same industry, I was bored, max’d out and didn't know what to do next.  I was pigeon-holed into an industry that I was not so fond of, and saw no way to get out.  I felt trapped. Lori understood my predicament, as she had seen it all before -- she was sympathetic, but resolute in knowing that she could help me find answers.  I took great solace in that!

Through several sessions and dozens of exercises, I began to get a clearer picture of who I am, and where my strengths and talents truly lie.  Working with Lori, I was able to translate that understanding into updated, targeted resumes that quickly produced interviews and gave me the confidence to express myself better than ever before.

Consulting a Career Coach should be mandatory for anyone in today's work force, and Lori is the best at her profession.
